Privacy notice

Using the site

Like almost every website, our web server records each request: your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure. They are deleted automatically after 14 days and are not shared or used to identify anyone.

Settings on your device

Your choices, such as your buoy, units, saved spots and surfing profile, are stored in your own browser (local storage), not on our server. If you install Wet Waves as an app, a copy of the site and its latest data is kept on your device so it works without signal. Clearing the site’s data in your browser removes all of this.

Buoy alerts

Only if you set up an alert, our server stores:

We use this only to send you the alerts you asked for. To deliver a notification, the encrypted message passes through your browser’s notification service (for example Google Firebase Cloud Messaging or the Apple Push Notification service), whose own privacy terms apply. We cannot read anything on your phone.

Everything is deleted when you delete your last alert, or automatically when your browser tells us the notification address no longer works (for example after you block notifications for Wet Waves or uninstall it). “Send me a test notification” stores nothing. Our legal basis is your request for the alerts. Backups of the server are kept for up to three days.

Cameras and links

Camera players and outside links are run by other organisations. A camera player only connects to its provider when you open it, and that provider’s own privacy terms apply.

Your rights and contact

Because we do not hold your name or contact details, we usually cannot link any information to you. You can remove your alert data at any time by deleting your alerts in Buoy watch. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). A contact form is coming soon for any privacy questions.

Changes

We will update this notice if what we keep changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. See also the terms of use.
