Terms of use

1. It is free and comes with no guarantees

Wet Waves is provided free of charge and “as is”. We do not promise that it will be available, accurate, complete, up to date or free of faults. We may change, pause or stop any part of it, including alerts, at any time and without notice.

2. The information comes from other organisations

Buoy readings, tide predictions, water levels, forecasts and camera feeds come from third parties, listed under Data sources in the Field guide. Their data can be late, wrong, missing or changed without notice. Real-time buoy readings are not quality-controlled. Forecasts and tide times are predictions, not measurements. Buoys measure offshore, not at the beach. We are not responsible for third-party data, cameras or websites we link to.

3. It is not safety advice

Nothing on Wet Waves is safety advice, a guarantee that conditions are safe, or a substitute for your own judgement. It is not for navigation. Ratings and suggested windows are rough guides, not recommendations to enter the water.

4. Alerts may be late or missed

Buoy alerts depend on the buoys, the data feed, our server, your browser and your phone’s notification service. An alert may arrive late, more than once, or not at all, and may describe a reading that has already changed. Do not rely on alerts for your safety or for anything important. You can delete your alerts at any time.

5. Our liability

As far as the law allows, Wet Waves and the people who run it are not liable for any loss, damage, injury or cost arising from your use of the site, the information on it, alerts, or any reliance on them, including any loss caused by the site being unavailable or wrong. Because the service is free, you agree that this is reasonable.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

6. Using the site fairly

Please do not misuse the site, overload it, try to break its security, or copy its data in bulk. Third-party data remains subject to its own licence, shown in the Field guide.

7. Privacy

How we handle the little information we keep is explained in the privacy notice.

8. Changes and law

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site means you accept it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
